Life in Korea - Chusok 2007
The end of September brought us some welcome respite to our hectic routine in the form of the second of Korea's major holiday's - Chusok (Lunar New Year is the #1 Korean Holiday). Yee Haa!!! 1 full week off!
As we had all recently traveled to the US and I had been globetrotting quite a bit, we decided to make this a relaxing visit and mostly just used the holiday as a chance to rest and recharge our batteries. Leaving the Seoul area didn't seem too good an idea as Chusok and Lunar New Year see huge crowds on the freeways exiting the cities. A normal 4 hour drive during these times can easily become 16 hours and we didn't feel the need to see the porta-potties and roadside vendors that move to the highways to service those stranded in the massive traffic jams.
But Seoul has PLENTY to offer in the immediate area so it wasn't like we were bored or anything. Plus with everyone out of town visiting relatives or bottled up in their homes hosting relatives, most the time we had everything to ourselves (relatively - even when a small portion of 18 million people are out and about it's more people than we'd think of seeing around back in the states - Rule of Large Numbers and all that).
Anyway, rather than me editorializing on the travels we had in and about Seoul, I have decided to present this in more of a photo essay sort of style. Click the links below to see specifics of each of the sites we visited in our lovely city.
